Details:

At 18:28 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched to assist the 14m Yacht Wayward with four persons on board which had reported that it was taking on water 1.5 miles South of Black Rock.

The All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 18:36, arriving on scene at 18:47. Two lifeboat crew were placed on board the yacht with the lifeboats salvage pump. On investigation it was found that the water ingress was minimal so the yacht was escorted to the County Wharf pontoon where it was safely moored at 19:20 and the smaller pump from the Inshore Lifeboat was used to remove the excess water. At 19:30 the lifeboat was released to return to its station.

The All Weather Lifeboat arrived back alongside its pontoon berth at 19:35 where it was refuelled and ready for service by 19:50.

The yacht had just been completed and was on passage when the skipper had spotted the water ingress. Due to the limited access to the bilge space it had been difficult to assess the extent of the problem so the skipper had wisely advised the coastguard of his concerns.
