At 12:10 Falmouth Coastguard requested that both Falmouth All Weather and Inshore Lifeboats be launched following reports of a boat on fire off Zone Point.
The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 12:16 and headed out of the harbour. The All Weather Lifeboat was about to leave its pontoon berth at 12:17 when it was advised that there were other vessels on scene and it was believed the fire was out so it was unlikely to be required, so the lifeboat remained alongside its pontoon to await the Inshore Lifeboats arrival on scene. The Inshore Lifeboat arrived on scene at 12:24 to find the boat under tow and placed a crew member on board who confirmed that no further assistance was required so as both boats were happy to continue with the tow back into Falmouth Harbour the Inshore Lifeboat was released at 12:26 to return to station.
The Inshore Lifeboat was recovered onto its slipway at 12:38 where the lifeboat was refuelled and made ready for service by 13:00.
The 8m ski boat with two persons on board had suffered a failure of a coolant hose resulting in a cloud of steam and luckily no fire.
