Details:

Falmouth All Weather and Inshore Lifeboats had both been afloat for the Falmouth Week Red Arrows Display which had just finished when at 18:45 Falmouth Coastguard requested that the lifeboats assist the 10m yacht Flora which had reported smoke coming from its engine and requested assistance.

Both lifeboats arrived on scene at 18:49 and it was confirmed that there was no fire so the Inshore Lifeboat placed a crew member on board the yacht to assist with establishing a tow. The All Weather Lifeboat took the yacht under tow at 18:51 and headed back into the Carrick Roads, but at 19:00 the Inshore Lifeboat was retasked to another incident at the entrance to the Helford. The lifeboat continued to tow the yacht to Mylor Harbour where the yacht was placed on its mooring at 19:30, the lifeboat being released to return to its station.

The All Weather Lifeboat arrived back alongside its pontoon berth at 19:50, with both being refuelled and ready for service by 20:05.

It is believed that the smoke had been caused by a problem with the engines fan belt so it was decided to tow the yacht back to its mooring.
