Details:

At 09:51 Falmouth Coastguard requested that both Falmouth All Weather and Inshore Lifeboats be launched to assist the police in the continuation of the search for a missing person in the Falmouth area. The Falmouth and Porthoustock Coastguard Rescue Teams and the Coastguard Helicopter were also tasked to assist in the search which was being coordinated by the Police and involved a number of their units and the Cornwall Search and Rescue Team.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 09:57 followed shortly afterwards by the All Weather Lifeboat which left its pontoon berth at 10:00. The Inshore Lifeboat commenced its search of the Docks area at 10:04 while the All Weather Lifeboat started its search of Pendennis Point at 10:08. A thorough search of the coastline and adjacent water was carried out by both lifeboats towards Rosemullion Head but at 12:07 further information was received from the Police and the lifeboats were diverted to search the Inner Harbour and shoreline at Trefusis Point. When the All Weather Lifeboat completed its search at 12:44 and the Inshore at 12:50 the lifeboats were released to return to their station.

The All Weather Lifeboat arrived back alongside its pontoon berth at 12:58 with the Inshore Lifeboat being recovered onto its slipway at 13:00, where they were both refuelled and ready for service by 13:20.

The shore based search continued and at 14:00 the missing person was located alive in a wooded area of Pendennis Point by Cornwall Search and Rescue Unit. This was an excellent conclusion to an extensive search and is a great example of the emergency services working together to achieve the same goal, the saving of a life.
