At 19:04 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following a report from the Nare Point NCI lookout reporting a Wayfarer sailing dinghy in difficulties ½ mile East of Nare Point.
The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 19:10 and headed across Falmouth Bay arriving off Nare Point at 19:25. The dinghy was located being towed by the yacht Lotus, so the two occupants of the dinghy were transferred to the Inshore Lifeboat and a lifeboat crew member put on board the dinghy before the Inshore Lifeboat took over the tow. The dinghy was towed to Porthallow where was placed on the beach at 19:50. Once the casualties had been dropped ashore and the lifeboats equipment stowed at 20:00 the Inshore Lifeboat was released to return to its station.
The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway at 20:25 where it was refuelled, rehoused and ready for service by 20:40.
The two casualties had been out sailing when their rudder had failed and with the offshore wind had been unable to make headway back to Porthallow
