Inshore lifeboat (Launched 13:55 / Returned 14:44) – Neil Capper (Helmsman), Tom Bird, Jake Ingleby
At 13:48 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following a report from a member of the public of wreckage sighted on the shoreline between Rosemullion Head and Maenporth. Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team was also tasked to assist with the search.
The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 13:55 and having rounded Pendennis Point headed across the bay, arriving on scene at 14:03. The wreckage of an open boat was located on the shoreline and a crewmember was put ashore to investigate it. No identifying marks were found and there was no sign of recent occupation so having collected a small amount of equipment from the boat the crewman was recovered to the Inshore Lifeboat. At 14:31 the Inshore Lifeboat was released to return to its station.
The Inshore Lifeboat was recovered onto its slipway at 14:44 where the lifeboat was refuelled and made ready for service by 15:05.
While it proved impossible to positively identify the vessel, it is believed it may have broken free from a mooring in the recent poor weather and had then drifted out into the bay before being blown onto the Rocks near Rosemullion Head.
