At 13:33 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched to assist a 5.5m Rigid Inflatable with four people on board which had broken down in Porthallow Bay.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 13:39 and having rounded Pendennis Point headed across Falmouth Bay arriving on scene at 13:55. A tow line was passed to the boat and once it had recovered its anchor it was towed back to Falmouth where it was safely secured at the Grove Place Dinghy Park slipway at 14:30, the Inshore Lifeboat being then released to return to its station.

The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway at 14:40 where it was refuelled, rehoused and ready for service by 15:00.

The Rigid Inflatable belonged to a diving club who had been exploring the wreck of the Volnay in Porthallow Bay when their engine had failed so had contacted the by phone as their VHF was not working. The coastguard had made a VHF broadcast to all vessels requesting assistance with a tow but with no vessels in the immediate area they launched the Inshore Lifeboat to assist. Once the lifeboat was underway a passing fishing boat had confirmed the exact location of the casualty.
