Details:

At 02:48 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following reports of someone calling for help in the river between Flushing and Penryn. The Falmouth Coastguard Cliff Rescue Team were also tasked to assist.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 02:54 and arrived on scene off Flushing at 02:59. A member of the public at Flushing indicated that the calls had come from the Little Falmouth area so the Inshore Lifeboat headed up river. They then heard shouts coming from the nearby pontoon island where they discovered that the casualty had been recovered from the water by a couple using their dinghy and had been placed on the pontoon. The Lifeboat crew used their Casualty Care training to assess the casualty who was suffering from Hypothermia and requested that an Ambulance meet them at the Premier Marina. The casualty was transferred to the Inshore Lifeboat and taken to the Marina where they were met by the Coastguard Team and Ambulance Paramedics. Once the casualty had been transferred into the care of the paramedics the Inshore Lifeboat was released to return to its station at 03:53.

The Inshore Lifeboat was recovered onto its slipway at 04:09 where the lifeboat was refuelled and made ready for service by 04:29.

It is not known how the casualty came to be in the water, but they are believed to have come from a nearby yacht. The efforts of the couple who located and recovered the casualty from the water should certainly be praised.
