At 12:20 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following reports of five persons caught in a rip current at Porthluney Cove. The Portscatho Coastguard Rescue Team and a Helicopter from RNAS Culdrose were also tasked to assist.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 12:26 and having rounded Zone Point headed up to the east arriving on scene at 12:46. The helicopter was already on scene and reported that all persons appeared to be out of the water. The Inshore Lifeboat also carried out a check of the area. At 13:20 it was confirmed that all the casualties were accounted for so the units were released to return to their stations.

The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway at 14:01 where it was refuelled, rehoused and ready for service by 14:15.

The five persons were believed to have been surfing when they were caught in a rip current and were being carried out of the cove. Luckily they had been able get clear of the rip and make their way back to the beach.
