Details:

At 12:23 Falmouth Coastguard requested the launch of Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat to assist two people reported to be cut off on the rocks between Maenporth Beach and Pennance Point. Falmouth Coastguard Cliff Rescue Team was also tasked to assist.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 12:29 and arrived on scene at 12:37. The two casualties who were wearing buoyancy aids were located on the rocks and advised that they were part of a group of eight kayakers. They advised that five had headed back towards Maenporth while one was believed to have headed towards Swanpool. In view of this information the Inshore Lifeboat commenced a shore line search to try and locate the other kayakers. When the lone kayaker could not be located the Inshore Lifeboat returned to collect the original casualties and took them to Maenporth Beach. The Coastguard Mobile was at the beach and the team were eventually able to confirm that all the kayakers were accounted for. So at 13:27 the Inshore Lifeboat was released to return to its station.

The Inshore Lifeboat was recovered onto its slipway at 13:45 where the lifeboat was refuelled and made ready for service by 14:00.

The two kayakers had got into difficulties, had fallen into the water and had been unable to get back onto their kayaks so had swam to the rocks. A member of the public had become aware of their predicament and had called the coastguard to request assistance.
