Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat was launched at 21:08 to evacuate an injured 2nd officer from the 135m (7,642GRT) Container Ship Encounter in Falmouth Bay. The vessel had been on passage from Bilbao to Liverpool when the sailor had been injured when the ship had been hit by a big sea off Ushant so the vessel diverted to Falmouth.

A pilot was placed on-board the vessel by the Pilot Boat. The Vessel then steamed slowly into the bay providing a lee to the lifeboat to allow it alongside. Three lifeboat crew were placed on-board the vessel and the casualty was then evacuated on a stretcher and transferred to the lifeboat before being taken ashore to a waiting ambulance at the lifeboat station at 21:59.
