At 15:12 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched to assist the 31ft yacht Taufun with two persons on board which had suffered complete electrical failure and was concerned about entering the harbour unassisted. The yacht was on passage from the Isles of Scilly to Falmouth and was just north of the Manacle Rocks when the skipper used his mobile phone to report his concerns.

The All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 15:22 and headed out into the bay where it located the yacht under sail one mile south of Pendennis Point at 15:35. The skipper confirmed that he was happy to continue to sail into the harbour escorted by the lifeboat. As the yacht approached Pendennis Point the skipper confirmed that his electrics had been restored and that he had managed to start his engine. So when the yacht had reached the safely of the Inner Harbour at 16:07 the yacht headed up the Penryn River to the Falmouth Yacht Marina leaving the lifeboat to return to its station.

The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 16:10 where the lifeboat was refuelled and was ready for service by 16:20.
