Report of Lifejacket and Debris in water

Location: 1 mile South East of Porthmellon Head

Weather: S 4, Slight Sea and Swell, Good Visibility, Sunny Periods

All weather lifeboat: (Launched 14:26 / Returned 15:35) – Jonathan Blakeston (Coxswain), Dave Nicoll, Adam West, Will Allen, Ian Bailey

Inshore lifeboat: (Tasked 14:11 / Returned 15:26) – Thomas Telford (Helmsman), Andy Jenkin, Chris Simpson

Details:

At 14:03 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched to investigate a Lifejacket and other debris located by a passing yacht 1 mile Southeast of Porthmellon Head. In view of the area to be searched at 14:11 the All Weather Lifeboat was also tasked to assist in the search.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 14:11 and having rounded Zone Point headed to the reported position arriving on scene at 14:20 where they recovered the objects from the water including the lifejacket. With no identifiable markings the Inshore Lifeboat commenced a search of the area.

The All Weather Lifeboat which left its pontoon berth at 14:26 and arrived on scene at 14:42. The All Weather Lifeboat also commenced a search of the area.

At 15:10 with both lifeboats having carried out an extensive search of the area, no further debris being found and no one reported overdue the search was terminated and both lifeboats were released to return to their station.

The Inshore Lifeboat was recovered onto its slipway at 15:26 and the All Weather Lifeboat arrived back alongside its pontoon berth at 15:35, with both being refuelled and ready for service by 15:55.
