Boat: Inshore Lifeboat Crew: Marc Thomas (Helmsman), Diane Bush, Tom Bird Location: Off Ponsharden, Penryn River Shout Date: 01/04/2009 - 12:08 Weather:W 2, Slight Sea & Swell, Good Visibility, Sunny Periods ![]() At 12:02 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following reports that two youths in a small boat off Ponsharden in the Penryn River appeared to be in difficulties. The Falmouth Coastguard Mobile was also tasked to assist. The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 12:08 and arrived on scene at 12:12. The boat and youths were spotted off Ponsharden trying to row the small dinghy up river towards Penryn using two pieces of wood. It was decided to take them onboard the inshore lifeboat for their own safety and as one climbed onboard the lifeboat the other one fell into the river, but was quickly recovered. Both youths were landed at the Ponsharden Pontoon along with the dinghy, and having been handed over to the Coastguard Team the inshore lifeboat was then released to return to station at 12:38. The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 12:57 where it was refuelled, rehoused and was ready for service by 13:15. The youths had borrowed the small dinghy called Misty Blue from the nearby beach and had attempted to row it up river. Neither of them were wearing lifejackets meaning that this incident could have had a really tragic ending had they capsized and fallen into the river.
