At 12:49 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Offshore Lifeboat be launched to assist the 27ft Yacht White Sands with two persons onboard, which had lost its rudder, 9 miles East of Zone Point, while on passage from St Mawes to Plymouth.

The Offshore Lifeboat left her berth at 12:58 and made best speed to the yachts position, arriving on scene at 13:27. A drogue was passed to the yacht, the towline was connected and at 13:35 the tow back to Falmouth commenced. At 15:10 the lifeboat with the casualty in tow, passed Black Rock, and shortly afterwards the tow was shortened and the casualty strapped alongside for the final part of the journey into the harbour. At 15:30 the yacht was safely placed alongside the Port Pendennis Marina, and the Offshore Lifeboat was released to return to station.

The Offshore Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 15:40, where it was refuelled and ready for service by 16:07.
