Boat: All Weather Lifeboat Crew: Mark Pollard (Coxswain), David Proud, Carl Beradmore, Luke Wills, Tom Bird, Sandy Procter Location: Black Rock at entrance to Falmouth Harbour Shout Date: 02/09/2011 - 14:21 Weather:WNW 3, Slight Sea and Swell, Good Visibility, Partly Cloudy ![]() At 14:21 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched following reports of a yacht aground on Black Rock. The All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 14:28 and arrived on scene at 14:36. It was soon confirmed that the vessel was the 26ft Yacht Wave Dancer with two persons onboard which had become caught on the reef behind Black Rock. Having ascertained that the yacht was not damaged, was in no immediate danger and that the skipper was happy to await the flood tide, communications were established between the Coastguard and the Yacht and the lifeboat was released to return to its station at 14:42. The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 14:54. The lifeboat was then refuelled and was ready for service by 15:08. The yachts skipper had for some reason misjudged the amount of water over the reef while sailing close to Black Rock and had grounded, much to his embarrassment. No harm had been done and as the yacht was bilge keeled it had settled well on the reef with only an hour of ebb tide left.
