Falmouth Atlantic 75 Class Inshore Lifeboat - RNLB Eve Pank (B756)

At 17:34 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following reports that a yacht was close to the rocks on the foreshore to the south of St Just Creek. The boat appeared to have lines out but there was no sign of its occupant and there were concerns for his well being.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 17:40 and arrived on scene at 17:47. The yacht was soon located close to the shoreline about half a mile to the South of St Just Creek. Its single occupant had chosen this spot to anchor his boat but due to the strong Northerly winds the anchors had dragged causing the yacht to go ashore. Lines had been run ashore and additional anchors laid to stabilise the situation as the tide had risen but as its batteries were flat it was therefore unable to start its engine.

Having discussed the situation with the skipper, including an offer to tow the yacht clear, he decided to remain where he was as the forecast was for the wind to veer and drop off. Once the Inshore Lifeboat crew had obtained details and confirmed that the skipper had suitable methods to raise the alarm if the situation deteriorated, at 18:06 the inshore lifeboat was then released to return to station.

The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 18:20 where it was refuelled, rehoused and was ready for service by 18:35.

The 36ft Yacht Watie with its occupant is in the Falmouth area preparing for a passage to Australia. This is the second time the lifeboat has been called out to the yacht this year following concerns for its safety.
