Weather:SE 8, Very Rough Sea, Good Visibility, Overcast

At 20:48 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Offshore Lifeboat be launched to assist the 32ft Yacht Waffler with one person onboard which was in difficulties in adverse weather conditions 16 miles South East of Falmouth.

The Offshore Lifeboat left her berth at 21:00 and made best possible speed to the yachts position in the very rough sea conditions. The Offshore Lifeboat arrived on scene at 22:18 and having discussed the situation with the skipper of the yacht the Coxswain decided, considering the weather conditions, it was best to try and escort the yacht into Falmouth rather than establish a tow. At 01:05 the Offshore Lifeboat and Yacht were passing the lighthouse and soon after entered the more sheltered waters of the harbour. The yacht was then able to motor into the Inner Harbour where at 01:26 the yacht was safely berthed alongside Port Pendennis Marina.

The yacht had been on passage from Southampton to Falmouth under the command of a delivery skipper. The yacht had suffered two knockdowns with in thirty minutes of each other and the skipper was concerned with the prevailing conditions that he would not be able to make safe haven in Falmouth.

The Offshore Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 01:35, where it was refuelled and ready for service by 01:50.
