Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat - RNLB Eve Pank (B-756)

At 05:07 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following a call from a yacht reporting that the 45ft Ketch Tyra appeared to be dragging its anchor and was in danger of being driven ashore on Trefusis Point. It was uncertain if anybody was onboard the yacht.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 05:11 and arrived on scene at 05:14. A crewman was put onboard the yacht and was able to confirm that it was unoccupied. A towline was connected and the strain taken while the yachts anchor was recovered. The yacht was then towed into the Inner Harbour where it was re-anchored off Custom House Quay at 05:53.

The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 06:02 where it was refuelled, rehoused and was ready for service by 06:20.

It appears that the owner of the yacht had gone ashore for the night and with the strain from the increasing wind the yachts anchor cable had slowly paid itself out until the yacht had over 200m of chain out, putting it very close to the rocky shore.
