At 14:39 Falmouth Coastguard requested that the Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following a call from the 30ft Yacht Sunflower of St Mawes with four youngsters onboard reporting that the yacht had suffered engine failure and was having difficulty sailing in the prevailing weather conditions.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 14:46, heading to the original position, which was given as off St Mawes Castle. The yacht was eventually located between St Mawes Castle and St Just off Ski Beach at 14:58. A crewman was placed onboard the yacht and to help establish the tow. At 15:06 the yacht was taken in tow back towards St Mawes, where it was safely placed on its mooring in Percuil River at 15:35.

As the crew of the Inshore Lifeboat were departing the Percuil River at 15:41 Falmouth Coastguard requested the lifeboat proceed to investigate a dinghy which had been found off Lugo Rock Buoy.
