Falmouth Severn class all weather lifeboat RNLB Richard Cox Scott (17-29)

At 04:50 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched to assist the 36ft yacht Stage Sea with two people onboard which had reported being caught on a lobster pot marker ¾ mile North East of Manacle Buoy and was unable to free itself.

The All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 05:01 and headed across the bay reaching the casualty at 05:22. Lifeboat crew were put onboard the yacht and by 05:49 had managed to free the line. Having checked that the propeller and rudder were not damaged the yacht continued on its passage, while the lifeboat was released to return to its station at 05:55.

The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 06:23. The lifeboat was then refuelled and was ready for service by 06:40.

The yacht had been on passage from Falmouth to Cardiff when it had become fouled on the lobster pot marker. Despite a number of attempts the crew had been unable to free the line so they had called the Coastguard for assistance. Once the lifeboat crew had freed the rope the yacht continued on to its next port of call which was Newlyn.
