At 12:28 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather and Inshore Lifeboats be launched following a distress call from the yacht Sleuth Hound reporting that it was aground on Black Rock and that one of its crew had a head injury.

The All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 12:35. The Inshore Lifeboat, which launched at 12:33 had arrived on scene at 12:36 and found that a Fishing Vessel had already towed the yacht off the rocks so they stood by until the arrival of the All Weather Lifeboat at 12:40. The Lifeboat transferred two first aiders to the yacht to assess the injured persons condition. It was decided to leave the casualty onboard the yacht and that the lifeboats should escort the yacht back to the lifeboat station. Once the All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon at 13:10 the yacht moored up alongside the lifeboat to allow the paramedics to come onboard to treat the casualty, before taking him to Treliske Hospital for further treatment at 13:30.

The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 13:10. The lifeboat was then refuelled, and was ready for service by 13:40.

The 34ft Hallberg Rassey 342 yacht Sleuth Hound had been sailing past Black Rock when it ran aground on the edge of the reef, causing one of its crew to suffer a blow to the head. Thanks to the actions taken by the skipper and his crew along with the assistance of a passing Fishing Vessel the yacht was refloated very quickly without any major damage, the crewman being initially treated by the lifeboat crew prior to being landed into the care of ambulance paramedics.
