At 15:13 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched following a report from the Portscatho NCI Lookout that a yacht appeared to be in difficulties 2 miles South of Greeb Point, off Gerrans Bay. Portscatho Coastguard Mobile were also tasked to assist.

The All Weather Lifeboat left its berth at 15:23 and headed out around Zone Point locating the 32ft yacht Sima at 15:35. The yacht indicated that it was not in any difficulty so having checked the area for any other vessels the lifeboat was released to return to station at 15:48.

The yacht Sima later admitted to the Coastguard that they had been making heavy weather and at the time of the initial report had been suffering engine problems.

The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 16:10. The lifeboat was then refuelled, and was ready for service by 16:25.
