Falmouth Atlantic 75 class inshore lifeboat - RNLB Eve Pank (B756)

At 07:51 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following a call from the 35ft Yacht Shearwater reporting that they were dragging their anchor and in danger of going ashore at the Tresanton Hotel Beach in St Mawes. The yacht had been on passage from Kinsale in Ireland to Falmouth and had arrived in St Mawes during the night and had dropped its anchor to await daylight, as its engine was not functioning.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 07:58 and arrived on scene at 08:05. The yacht was very close to the rocks below the seawall, so a towline was passed and the yacht was towed clear. The yacht was safely placed on a mooring in St Mawes Harbour at 08:36, the inshore lifeboat being then released to return to station.

The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 08:46 where it was refuelled, rehoused and was ready for service by 09:01.

The yacht had been very close to the rocks and its rudder is believed to have grounded a number of times. Without the prompt assistance of the inshore lifeboat crew the situation could have been very different, resulting in potentially the loss of the yacht and its crews lives being put in danger.
