Boat: All Weather Lifeboat Crew: Mark Pollard (Coxswain), David Proud, Alan Rowe, Alistair Heane, Phil Rogers, Carl Beardmore, Tom Bird, Andy Jenkin Location: Off Pendennis Point Shout Date: 13/02/2007 (All day) Weather:S 6, Moderate Sea and Swell, Good Visibility, Overcast At 08:13 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched to assist in a search following the discovery of an abandoned yacht and tender off Pendennis Point. The inshore lifeboat had been launched at 07:59 to investigate an inflatable dinghy but had then located the yacht Savara with no one onboard but signs of recent occupation. The Falmouth Coastguard Cliff Team, Royal Navy search and rescue helicopter from RNAS Culdrose, and the pilot boat Arrow were also tasked to assist in the search, along with other local vessels. The All Weather Lifeboat left its berth at 08:20 and arrived on scene at 08:33, shortly after the arrival of the helicopter. Two crewmen were placed onboard the drifting yacht to sail the vessel back into harbour and to find out as much additional information as possible. The lifeboat then joined the search, accompanied by HMS Tyne and her sea boats, covering an area of Falmouth Bay between Pendennis Point and Nare Head. Following further information that indicated that the yacht and tender had been stolen from Falmouth Inner Harbour by two youths during the night, the search was extended to include the Carrick Roads. At 10:25 on completion of a thorough search of Falmouth Bay and Carrick Roads all units were released to return to station, while the Police carried out further investigations. The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 10:30. The lifeboat was then refuelled, and was ready for service by 10:45. Following the release of CCTV footage the two youths involved attended the local police station of their own free will.
