Boat: All Weather Lifeboat Crew: Mark Pollard (Coxswain), David Proud, John Blakeston, Phil Rpgers, Carl Beardmore, Tom Bird, Tom Napper, John Hackwell Location: Mjn-aver Point, near Gillan Creek Shout Date: 30/07/2006 (All day) Weather:SW 6, Moderate Sea, Good Visibility, Sunny Periods and Squally Showers At 15:10 Falmouth Coastguard had requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched to assist the 30ft Yacht Saraphina with four people onboard, which had reported going aground and taking on water at Mjn-aver Point, near Gillan Creek. Once on scene at 15:26 the inshore lifeboat had requested additional support from the all weather lifeboat. The Pouthoustock Coastguard mobile was also tasked to assist, and a number of other vessels including the Rigid Inflatable from a HM Customs Launch also responded to the skippers VHF call. The All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 15:38, arriving off Gillan Creek at 15:57. The lifeboats inflatable Y-Boat was then launched, and the salvage pump was transferred to the yacht by the inshore lifeboat. Attempts were made to stem the influx of water, but the ingress was too great. Additional assistance was obtained from the commercial dive boat Seawide Services which provided a second pump and along with additional help from Sailaway boat yard, the boat was eventually refloated. It was then strapped between the inshore lifeboat and the dive boat and taken up the Helford River to the Helford Passage where it was beached outside the Ferryboat Inn, the all weather lifeboat being released to return to station at 18:36. The cause of the fire was unknown and once the fire brigade had confirmed there was no one onboard they then allowed the fire to burn itself out. The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 19:08. The lifeboat was then refuelled, and was ready for service by 19:35.
