Boat: Inshore Lifeboat Crew: Dave Nicoll (Helmsman), Oliver Lewis, Luke Wills Location: St Just Pool, Carrick Roads Shout Date: 03/09/2008 - 20:06 Weather:W 6, Moderate Sea & Swell, Good Visibility, Squally Showers ![]() At 20:01 Falmouth Coastguard requested that both Falmouth Inshore and All Weather Lifeboats be launched to assist the 45ft Yacht Rocard which had reported that it had no engine power and was dragging its anchor in St Just Pool, and was in danger of going onto the rocks. Other vessels in the area were also trying to assist. The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 20:06 and headed across the Carrick Roads to St Just. Arriving on scene at 20:09 the yacht was located close to the shore with its anchor down and with another line to a boat moored close by. A lifeboat crewman was put onboard the yacht and the Inshore Lifeboat was strapped alongside so it could use its engines to take some of the weight so preventing the yacht from dragging closer to the shore. The All Weather Lifeboat left its berth at 20:08 and arrived on scene at 20:12. Once the All Weather Lifeboat was in a position to pass a tow, the Inshore Lifeboat was used to transfer the tow line to the yacht and a second lifeboatman was put onboard to assist in raising the anchor and casting off the other line. By 20:45 the yacht was clear of the rocks and undertow to Falmouth, the Inshore Lifeboat then recovering the other line before escorting both vessels back into the harbour. At 21:25 the yacht was safely moored at Port Pendennis Marina and both lifeboats were released to return to station. The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 21:30 where it was refuelled, rehoused and was ready for service by 21:45. The 45ft Yacht with two persons onboard had anchored close to the moorings off St Just Creek but its anchor had dragged in the squally conditions putting it in danger of going on the rocks. The skipper had been unable to start the yachts engine, which also meant that the yacht could not raise its anchor without further assistance.
