Falmouth Severn class all weather lifeboat - RNLB Richard Cox Scott (17-29)

At 20:01 Falmouth Coastguard requested that both Falmouth All Weather and Inshore Lifeboats be launched to assist the 45ft Yacht Rocard which had reported that it had no engine power and was dragging its anchor in St Just Pool, and was in danger of going onto the rocks. Other vessels in the area were also trying to assist.

Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 20:08 and headed across the Carrick Roads to St Just. The Inshore Lifeboat which launched at 20:06 had arrived on scene at 20:09 and found the yacht was located close to the shore with its anchor down and with another line to a boat moored close by, and having placed a crewman onboard the yacht the Inshore Lifeboat was strapped alongside so it could use its engines to take some of the weight so preventing the yacht from dragging closer to the shore. The All Weather arrived on scene at 20:12 and once it was in a position to pass a tow, the Inshore Lifeboat was used to transfer the tow line to the yacht and a second lifeboatman was put onboard to assist in raising the anchor and casting off the other line.

By 20:45 the All Weather Lifeboat had pulled the yacht was clear of the rocks and she was undertow to Falmouth, where at 21:25 it was safely moored at Port Pendennis Marina, both lifeboats being then released to return to station.

The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 21:30. The lifeboat was then refuelled, and was ready for service by 21:40.

The 45ft Yacht with two persons onboard had anchored close to the moorings off St Just Creek but its anchor had dragged in the squally conditions putting it in danger of going on the rocks. The skipper had been unable to start the yachts engine, which also meant that the yacht could not raise its anchor without further assistance.
