Boat: All Weather Lifeboat Crew: Mark Pollard (Coxswain), David Proud, Snowy Angove, Alan Rowe, John Blakeston, Alistair Heane, Dave Nicoll, Phil Rogers, Tom Napper, Jonathon Hackwell Location: Off the Manacles Buoy Shout Date: 28/06/2007 (All day) Weather:W 4, Slight Sea & Swell, Good Visibility, Partly Cloudy At 00:29 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched following a call from the Coaster Independent reporting that she had been in collision with the yacht Rahala off the Manacles. After the collision the yacht had been seen to head inside the Manacle Buoy and there was concern for its safety. Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 00:39 and set course for the Manacle Buoy. While crossing the bay contact was made with the yacht, and its single-handed skipper confirmed that he was continuing on passage around the Lizard, having only sustained a damaged stanchion. It was decided that in view of the nature of the collision that the lifeboat should continue to rendezvous with the yacht and carryout a visual inspection of her hull to ensure there was no damage that could not be seen from onboard the yacht. The lifeboat eventually located the yacht off Black Head at 01:15 and having used its searchlights to check over the yachts hull a brief statement was taken from the skipper before the lifeboat was released to return to station at 01:24. The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 01:55. The lifeboat was then refuelled, and was ready for service by 02:10. The collision had occurred while the yacht was on passage from the Helford, and the coaster, which had previously been at anchor in Falmouth Bay, was proceeding to Porthoustock Quarry to load stone.
