Boat: Inshore Lifeboat Crew: Luke Wills (Helmsman), Tom Bird, Jonathan Hackwell Location: St Mawes Castle Shout Date: 23/06/2009 - 16:28 Weather:SE 3, Slight Sea & Moderate Swell, Good Visibility, Sunny ![]() At 16:23 Falmouth Coastguard requested that both Falmouth Inshore and All Weather Lifeboats be launched following reports that the 36ft Yacht Quintet had run aground below St Mawes Castle. The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 16:28 and arrived on scene at 16:32. The yacht, which had four persons onboard, was located aground close to the shore to the west of the castle with its anchor down. The Inshore Lifeboat discussed the situation with the yachts skipper and a line was passed to try and keep the yachts head into wind. The All Weather Lifeboat arrived on scene at 16:42 and it was soon apparent that the situation was under control and that the Inshore Lifeboat would be able to ease the yacht off as the tide came in so at 16:48 the All Weather Lifeboat was released to return to station. At 16:52 the Inshore Lifeboat reported that the yacht had been refloated and was being towed into deeper water. At 16:55 it was confirmed that the yacht was not taking any water and would continue under its own power to Mylor Harbour, the Inshore Lifeboat being released to return to station. The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 17:10 where it was refuelled, rehoused and was ready for service by 17:25. The yacht Quintet, a Maxi 1100 had been heading out of St Mawes when it had run aground while trying to follow the shoreline near to the castle. Luckily the tide was flooding and the southeasterly swell had only just started to build so the yacht was safely refloated.
