Boat: Inshore Lifeboat
Crew: Dave Nicoll (Helmsman), Tom Bird, Jonathan Hackwell
Location: Entrance to Restronguet Creek
Shout Date: 17/04/2008 (All day)
Weather:E 9, Rough Sea & Moderate Swell, Good Visibility, Sunny

At 13:05 Falmouth Coastguard requested that the Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following a report that the 26ft Yacht Phaestus with one person onboard had broken its mooring and had been driven ashore at the entrance to Restronguet Creek. The weather conditions at the time were appalling causing the yachts tender to sink and leaving the owner stranded on the yacht which was in danger of taking water and being seriously damaged.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 13:08 arriving on scene at 13:14. The boat was located very close to the steep rock face only being held off by the fact that its mast and rigging were tangled in the overhanging trees, causing the yacht to be broadside to the waves and shipping water fast.

A crewman was put onboard the yacht and a towline passed. Using considerable power the inshore lifeboat managed to bring the yachts head into the seas and towed it into deeper water where it was placed on a nearby mooring, and was checked over for any damage before being made secure.

At 13:47 Falmouth Coastguard requested that the Inshore Lifeboat respond to another incident off Ponsharden in the Penryn River so the owner was then dropped ashore at the Pandora Inn pontoon before the Inshore Lifeboat headed back down the Carrick Roads.

The 26ft Contessa Yacht had broken its moorings and despite the valiant attempts of its owner who was onboard at the time the boat had been driven ashore. Due to the position the yacht had gone ashore it was impossible for the owner to get ashore and had it not been for action of the Inshore Lifeboat crew the yacht would have been lost.
