Boat: All Weather Lifeboat Crew: Peter Wood (Coxswain), David Proud, Mark Pollard, Dave Nicoll, Alan Rowe, Nick Lewis, Phil Rogers, Marc Thomas, Andy Jenkins Location: 4 miles East of Zone Point Shout Date: 05/04/2004 (All day) Weather:W 6, Moderate Sea, Good Visibility, Sunny Periods At 09:21 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Offshore Lifeboat be launched following a call from the 24ft Yacht Nijomi reporting that she was unsure of her position and that her engine had failed. The initial call had been made on a mobile phone as the yachts radio was not working, but the coastguard were able to ascertain that the yacht was to the East of Falmouth, probably off Gerrans Bay. The Offshore Lifeboat left her berth at 09:33 and located the yacht 4 miles East of Zone Point at 09:54, the yacht having fired a flare to confirm its position. The yacht, which had four crew onboard, had left Charleston in St Austell Bay earlier and was taken in tow for Falmouth. While the lifeboat was heading back to Falmouth, the Coastguard called at 10:11 to advise that a 47ft French Yacht had reported that she had suffered engine failure and needed assistance to enter the harbour, but was in no immediate danger. The yacht was advised to stand off the entrance and that the lifeboat would assist once the first casualty had been safely moored alongside. At 11:46 the Nijomi was safely berthed at the Port Pendennis Marina and the four occupants were taken to the lifeboat station for a check up by the Lifeboat Doctor as they were suffering from varying levels of Hypothermia. The Offshore Lifeboat departed the Port Pendennis Marina at 11:53 and proceeded to the assistance of the second yacht.
