At 20:07 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Offshore Lifeboat be launched to assist the 27ft Yacht Mollymawk which had suffered engine failure and was becalmed 11 miles South of Falmouth. The three man crew were sailing from Falmouth to France and were nearly half way across the channel when in light airs their engine developed problems with its fuel system. The yacht headed back towards Falmouth under sail, but as dusk fell they became becalmed and there was concern for their safety.

The Offshore Lifeboat left her berth at 20:16 and arrived on scene at 21:00. The yacht was taken in tow, arriving back in Falmouth at 22:55, where she was safely berthed at the Port Pendennis Marina, the lifeboat then being released to return to station.

The Offshore Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 23:00, where it was ready for service by 23:15.
