Boat: Inshore Lifeboat Crew: Dave Nicoll (Helmsman), Marc Thomas, Luke Wills Location: Falmouth Inner Harbour Shout Date: 05/09/2008 - 07:10 Weather:SE 5, Slight Sea & Moderate Swell, Good Visibility, Sunny Periods ![]() At 07:04 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following reports that the 35ft Yacht Mermaid was dragging its anchor in Falmouth Inner Harbour. The yacht was single-handed, had a drive shaft problem and had already collided with a number of other yachts in the anchorage. The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 07:10, arriving on scene at 07:13. Two lifeboatmen were put onboard the yacht to help the skipper, and while the Inshore Lifeboat was strapped alongside. Once the anchor had been recovered the yacht was towed to the Visitors Yacht Haven where it was safely berthed at 07:41, the Inshore Lifeboat being released to return to station. The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 07:44 where it was refuelled, rehoused and was ready for service by 07:56. The single-handed yacht had arrived in Falmouth the previous evening from America, via the Azores and had already experienced difficulties while entering the harbour. When the coastguard received reports that the yacht was dragging its anchor they were therefore concerned for the welfare of the skipper, so as well as alerting the Harbourmaster they had requested the Inshore Lifeboat be launched to ensure assistance was provided as soon as possible.
