Boat: All Weather Lifeboat Crew: Mark Pollard (Coxswain), John Blakeston, Alan Rowe, Alistair Heane, Nick Lewis, John Lower, Diane Bush Location: Off Nare Head, Falmouth Bay Shout Date: 10/05/2009 - 22:18 Weather:Variable 1, Slight Sea & Moderate Swell, Good Visibility, Partly Cloudy ![]() At 22:08 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched to assist the 33ft Yacht Just Do It with two persons onboard, which was becalmed, and drifting with engine failure off Nare Head, near the Helford River. Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 22:18 and headed across the bay arriving on scene with the yacht at 22:36. The lifeboat stood by the yacht for a short while as she tried to sail clear of one of the merchant vessels in the bay, before the decision was made to take the yacht in tow. The yacht was then towed into Falmouth where it was safely moored up at Port Pendennis Marina by 00:07. The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 00:15. The lifeboat was then refuelled, and was ready for service by 00:30. The yacht had been on passage and its engine had failed as it rounded the Lizard Point. They had managed to continue to sail up into Falmouth Bay despite the light airs but as they were approaching the mouth of the Helford River the wind had died completely leaving the tide to push them closer to the shore. It was decided as a precaution to launch the lifeboat to tow them into harbour as an Easterly Severe Gale was forecast.
