Falmouth Severn Class All Weather Lifeboat - RNLB Richard Cox Scott (17-29)

At 14:13 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched to assist the charter yacht I Go that had reported having a rope around its propeller and rudder in a position 5 miles East of Zone Point.

Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 14:24 after rounding St Anthony Lighthouse set course for the casualty's position. The Lifeboat arrived on scene at 14:50 and having assessed the situation prepared to pass a towline to the yacht. By 15:08 the yacht was undertow for Falmouth. Once back in the harbour the yacht was taken up the Penryn River and by 17:05 safely moored up at Falmouth Marina, the lifeboat then being released to return to station.

The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 17:20. The lifeboat was then refuelled, and was ready for service by 17:35.

The 31ft Bavaria charter yacht had been on passage when one of its gib sheets can washed overboard and fouled the propeller and rudder. Despite several attempts to clear it this proved impossible and the crew contacted the coastguard to request assistance.
