Falmouth Severn class all weather lifeboat RNLB Richard Cox Scott (17-29)

At 09:32 Falmouth Lifeboat was proceeding to sea on an exercise when Falmouth Coastguard requested that the lifeboat assist the 26ft yacht Hina with three people onboard which was drifting 1 mile South of St Anthony Lighthouse and required a tow.

The All Weather Lifeboat headed out of the harbour and arrived on scene at 09:38. A tow line was passed to the yacht and it was towed into Falmouth Inner Harbour where it was safely berthed on the Visitors Yacht Haven at 10:24. The lifeboat was then released to continue with its exercise.

The yacht had been on passage from Poole to Falmouth and during the night had reported to Falmouth Coastguard that its engine was not working and it was drifting. As the yacht was in no immediate danger it had been advised to wait for the wind to pick up, but in the morning when the lifeboat launched on exercise it was felt prudent that the opportunity should be taken to assist the yacht into harbour. The yacht had already taken over three days to get from Poole to Falmouth.
