Falmouth Atlantic 75 class inshore lifeboat - RNLB Eve Pank (B756)

At 15:32 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched to assist the 32ft Yacht Freya III, which had reported being caught on a Lobster Pot Marker off Greeb Point, and despite various attempts the two crew had been unable to clear the line.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 15:35 and arrived on scene in Gerrans Bay at 15:43. A lifeboatman was placed onboard the yacht to access the situation, and a towline was connected to allow the Inshore Lifeboat to tow the yacht up wind to take the load off the line that was fouling the boats rudder. After a number of attempts the line was eventually cleared at 16:04 and the yacht was able to continue its passage to Falmouth by itself, the Inshore Lifeboat being released to return to station.

The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 16:25 where it was refuelled, rehoused and was ready for service by 16:40.

The yacht had been sailing when it had run over a poorly marked Lobster Pot. The rope and floats had become caught around the yachts rudder but as the yacht had been under sail at the time the propeller had luckily not fouled it. Once free the yachts skipper and crew had been able to resume their passage.
