Boat: All Weather Lifeboat Crew: Mark Pollard (Coxswain), Snowy Angove, Alistair Heane, John Lower, Carl Beardmore, Andy Jenkin, Sandy Procter Location: 6 miles South of Dodman Point Shout Date: 17/04/2011 - 20:09 Weather:SE 1, Slight Sea and Swell, Good Visibility, Clear Sky ![]() At 19:57 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched to assist the 40ft Yacht Forte which had reported being in a position 6 miles South of the Dodman Point with a rope in its propeller and making limited headway under sail in light airs. The Coastguard had put out a Pan broadcast to any vessels in the area but had not received any offers of assistance. The All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 20:09 and once clear of Zone Point set course for the casualties position. The Lifeboat arrived on scene at 20:44 and having assessed the situation took the yacht in tow back to Falmouth. The yacht was safely moored at Port Pendennis Marina at 23:04 and the lifeboat was released to return to station. The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 23:10. The lifeboat was then refuelled, and was ready for service by 23:25. The yacht which had three people onboard had just been purchased and was on passage from Falmouth to Finland. The thick rope which was not spotted floating in the water had fouled the propeller and despite considerable effort by the crew could not be removed. They had tried to head back to Falmouth under sail but due to the light airs were only making one knot so with the failing light it was decided that the best option was to get the lifeboat out to assist them.
