Boat: All Weather Lifeboat Crew: Mark Pollard (Coxswain), John Blakeston, Alan Rowe, Alistair Heane, Diane Bush, Oliver Lewis, Luke Wills Location: 1.5 miles East of Coverack Shout Date: 04/11/2008 - 23:16 Weather:S 4, Slight Sea & Moderate Swell, Good Visibility, Overcast ![]() At 23:06 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched to assist a 32ft Dufour Yacht, which had become entangled on a lobster pot marker 1.5 miles East of Coverack and had requested assistance. Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 23:16 and arrived on scene off Coverack at 23:46. Having assessed the situation it was decided to launch the lifeboats inflatable Y-Boat to transfer two lifeboatmen to the yacht to assist in clearing the lobster pot marker. At 00:38 the yacht was freed from the lobster pot but the remaining rope was still fouling its rudder and propeller so at 01:05 the lifeboat took the yacht in tow and headed back towards Falmouth. At 02:30 the yacht was safely berthed at the Port Pendennis Marina and the lifeboat was released to return to station. The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 02:35. The lifeboat was then refuelled, and was ready for service by 02:50. The brand new Dufour 325 yacht was one of two on delivery from Ireland when it became caught on the lobster pot marker and despite their own attempts they were unable to free themselves in the heavy swell and strong tide. The other yacht remained in the area and once the yacht had been free by the lifeboat they then followed them into Falmouth.
