Falmouth Severn Class All Weather Lifeboat - RNLB Richard Cox Scott (17-29)

At 22:01 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched to assist the 29ft Yacht Ceselena which was becalmed and had engine failure 2 miles Southeast of Black Head.

Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 22:13 and having cleared the harbour entrance set course for the casualtys position arriving on scene at 22:47. A line was passed to the yacht and the tow back to Falmouth commenced, the yacht being placed on Port Pendennis Marina in Falmouth Inner Harbour at 00:53.

The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 00:59. The lifeboat was then refuelled, and was ready for service by 01:15.

The yacht with two persons onboard was on passage when the wind had dropped leaving it becalmed, and having suffered engine failure the flood tide was in danger of pushing the yacht closer to the shore. As no other vessels were in the immediate area and the forecast was for calm conditions it was decided to launch the lifeboat to assist the yacht.
