Weather:SW 3, Slight Sea, Very Poor Visibility, Fog

Falmouth Offshore Lifeboat was launched at 05:44 to go to the assistance of the 26ft Yacht ""Campa of Gosport"" which was lost in the Fog. The single-handed sailor was returning from France and had become disorientated in the poor visibility. When he saw rocks all around him he wisely dropped his anchor and called for assistance.

Once the Lifeboat was clear of the Harbour they used the VHF Direction Finder to guide them to the casualty, who was believed to be in the area of the Manacles. At 06:10 the Fishing Boat ""Golden Fleece"" reported seeing a yacht close to the Sharks Fin off Manacle Point. The lifeboat arrived alongside the yacht at 06:20 and placed two of the lifeboat crew onboard the yacht to assist in raising the anchor.

The yacht was then towed back to Falmouth where she was safely berthed at the lifeboat pontoon at 07:37.

The yacht was taken back to her mooring and the Offshore Lifeboat was refuelled and was ready for service by 08:15.
