Boat: All Weather Lifeboat Crew: Peter Wood (Coxswain), David Proud, Snowy Angove, Alan Rowe, John Blakeston, Alistair Heane, Tom Napper Location: 14 miles South of Falmouth Shout Date: 03/08/2006 (All day) Weather:N 7, Rough Sea, Good Visibility, Clear Periods At 01:46 Falmouth Coastguard had requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched to assist the 30ft Yacht Biddy. The yacht was 14 miles South of Falmouth returning from France and the two persons onboard were exhausted and expressing concerns having suffered engine failure with the forecast for winds to increase from the North. The All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 01:59, arriving on scene at 02:46. Having assessed the situation it was decided to place two lifeboat crew onboard the yacht. In view of the conditions and the way the yacht was responding to the sea it was decided to carry out the transfer using the small inflatable Y-Boat, which is carried on the Severn Class Lifeboat. Once onboard the yacht the two crewmen checked over the casualties and then prepared the yacht for a tow. At 03:53 the towline had been connected and the slow journey back to Falmouth commenced, heading into the ever increasing wind and sea. The lifeboat and tow arrived in Falmouth Harbour at 06:58, and the yacht was transferred to the lifeboat boarding boat which placed it on its mooring off Flushing. The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 07:15. The lifeboat was then refuelled, and was ready for service by 07:45.
