Boat: All Weather Lifeboat Crew: Mark Pollard (Coxswain), Peter Wood, Alan Rowe, John Blakeston, Alistair Heane, Nick Lewis, Andy Jenkin Location: 2= miles South East of Zone Point Shout Date: 03/01/2008 (All day) Weather:E 6, Rough Sea & Moderate Swell, Good Visibility, Partly Cloudy At 19:09 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat be launched to assist the 32ft Yacht Areola with two persons onboard, which had suffered engine failure when it was 2= miles South East of Zone Point. Falmouth All Weather Lifeboat left its pontoon berth at 19:18 and set course for the yachts position arriving on scene at 19:35. A towline was passed to the yacht and once this had been established she was towed into the shelter of Falmouth Harbour where she was safely moored alongside Port Pendennis Marina at 20:30. The All Weather Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 20:45. The lifeboat was then refuelled, and was ready for service by 21:00. The yacht had been on passage from Brixham to Arklow in the Republic of Ireland and was making for the shelter of Falmouth when her engine had failed. It is believed that there had been a problem with the fuel filters, probably caused by the heavy sea conditions that the yacht had been experiencing while on passage.
