Falmouth Atlantic 75 class inshore lifeboat - RNLB Eve Pank (B756)

At 10:55 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following report that two windsurfers were possibly in difficulties in off Gyllyngvase Beach. The Fishing Vessel Lady Hamilton confirmed there were two people out towards the sailing marker.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 11:02 and headed out across Falmouth Bay, arriving in the area of the report at 11:08. It was soon confirmed that the casualties were in fact a local long distance swimmer and an RNLI Lifeguard on his rescue board. Both were perfectly safe so at 11:17 the Inshore Lifeboat was released to return to station.

The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 11:28 where it was refuelled, rehoused and was ready for service by 11:40.

The long distance swimmer regularly practices off Gyllyngvase Beach, and in view of the number of small boats operating in the area one of the RNLI Lifeguards had gone afloat on their Rescue Board to ensure the swimmers safety. This was certainly a false alarm, but to those on the shore it may have appeared to be someone in difficulty and they certainly did the right thing in reporting it to the Coastguard.
