Boat: Inshore Lifeboat Crew: David Proud (Helmsman), Mark Pollard, Marc Thomas Location: Porthluney Cove (Caerhays), Veryan Bay Shout Date: 05/01/2001 (All day) Weather:S 2, Slight Sea, Heavy Swell, Good Visibility, Sunny Periods At 12:28 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched to assist a Windsurfer which had been reported in difficulties close to the rocks at Porthluney Cove. The Offshore Lifeboat, a Helicopter from RNAS Culdrose and the Mevigssey Coastguard Mobile were also requested to assist, as a large ground swell was running on the south coast. The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 12:35, and proceeded at best speed to the incident, a journey of eleven miles. The Inshore Lifeboat arrived on scene at 12:52, just as the helicopter had successfully recovered the casualty from the rocks. The Inshore Lifeboat stood off the beach while the helicopter landed the casualty into the care of the Coastguard Mobile. Once he was safely ashore at 12:59 the Inshore Lifeboat was released to return to station. The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 13:34, where it was refuelled and ready for service by 13:50.
