At 12:28 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Offshore Lifeboat be launched to assist a Windsurfer which had been reported in difficulties close to the rocks at Porthluney Cove. The Inshore Lifeboat, a Helicopter from RNAS Culdrose and the Mevigssey Coastguard Mobile were also requested to assist, as a large ground swell was running on the south coast.

The Offshore Lifeboat left her pontoon berth at 12:41 and made best speed to the scene. At 12:52 as the Offshore Lifeboat was approaching Gull Rock the Helicopter reported successfully recovering the casualty from the rocks, so the Offshore Lifeboat was released to return to station.

The Offshore Lifeboat was back alongside its pontoon berth by 13:28, where it was refuelled and ready for service by 13:40.
