Falmouth Atlantic 75 class inshore lifeboat - RNLB Eve Pank (B756)

At 11:38 Falmouth Coastguard requested that Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat be launched following various reports of a Red Flare being sighted in the sky above the Truro River Area. The Falmouth Coastguard Mobile and search team were also tasked to assist.

The Inshore Lifeboat launched from her slipway at 11:45 and headed up the River Fal commencing its search at Turnaware Bar at 11:49. The whole river was searched from Turnaware up past Malpas to Sunny Corner. The Inshore Lifeboat returning back down the river to then search both the Ruan and Coombe Creeks as well. Nothing untoward was found and as the tide was ebbing fast limiting further areas to search the Inshore Lifeboat was released to return to station at 13:06.

The Inshore Lifeboat was back on its slipway by 13:25 where it was refuelled, rehoused and was ready for service by 13:40.

Neither the Inshore Lifeboat nor the Coastguard Search Teams found any sign of any vessel or person in difficulty. As there had been a number of confirmed sightings of the flare, it can only be assumed that it had been fired from the shore and is being treated as a hoax call.
