Boat: Inshore Lifeboat Crew: Dave Nicoll (Helmsman), David Proud Location: Between Flushing and Greenbank, Falmouth Harbour Shout Date: 04/07/2000 (All day) Weather:SW 2, Slight Sea, Fair Visibility, Overcast with Heavy Rain Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat was launched at 12:41 to go to the assistance of two people who were reported to be clinging to a navigation buoy between Flushing and Greenbank. A Rescue Helicopter from Culdrose and the Falmouth Coastguard Mobile was also tasked to assist, along with a number of local boats which had responded to a call put out by the coastguard on VHF Channel 16. The Inshore Lifeboat and Helicopter both arrived on scene at 12:43 and commenced a search of the immediate area. The Fleet Tender Meon was already on scene and had launched its Gemini to assist in the search. After a short time, a member of the public was seen waving on the shoreline, and a crewman was dropped ashore, ascertaining that one person had been seen coming out of the water and had made their way up towards the houses. The search continued for the remaining person while the Coastguard mobile proceeded to Flushing to try and locate the first casualty. At 13:10 two more people appeared on the beach waving and at 13:13 it was confirmed that they were the missing people. In fact, three foreign students had gone for a swim and had hung onto the buoy for a rest before swimming back ashore. The Inshore Lifeboat returned to station at 13:26, where it was refuelled and ready for service by 13:45.
