Boat: Inshore Lifeboat Crew: Dave Nicoll (Helmsman), Oliver Lewis, James Box Location: Ruan Creek, River Fal Shout Date: 31/08/2008 - 16:10 Weather:NW 4, Slight Sea & Swell, Good Visibility, Sunny Periods ![]() Falmouth Inshore and All Weather Lifeboats were taking part in a display at St Mawes Lifeboat Day, when at 16:10 Falmouth Coastguard requested that the Inshore Lifeboat proceed up river to the Tolverne area of the River Fal, to locate and assist two lads who had dialled 999 after their dinghy had broken down and they had become trapped by the incoming tide. The Inshore Lifeboat headed up the Carrick Roads and on up the River Fal, arriving off Tolverne at 16:21. Initially there was no sign of the casualties, but as the inshore lifeboat made its way up Ruan Creek they could be seen on the foreshore below the Tregothan Estate. Both casualties were recovered at 16:23, before the inshore lifeboat made its way further up the creek to recover the dinghy, which had been tied to one of the trees. The casualties and their dinghy were taken back to the pontoon at Trelissick where they were safely landed at 16:41. The Inshore Lifeboat was then released to return to St Mawes Lifeboat Day, arriving back at the quay at 17:02. The local lads had been exploring the Ruan Creek in a 10ft dinghy when their outboard had failed. Unable to row against the fast incoming tide they had tied to boat to one of the trees and had then tried to make their way back down the north side of the creek but had soon got cut off by the incoming tide, so had wisely called for assistance.
